Briscoe Quad-Indiana University
ERMCO, Inc. was recently awarded the Briscoe Quad project in Bloomington, Indiana. Besides being a standard scope electrical project, this project also has 4~5,000 watt solar photovoltaic systems on the roof of the multi-story student dormitory. Each 5,000 watt system will consist of 25~200 watt Evergreen solar panels serving a 5,000 Fronius inverter. One of the determining factors of the project was the alternate for said solar installation, which ERMCO was able to more competitively bid based on past solar experience. The installation will also utilize the Fat Spaniel data collecting network for daily and interval output to any accessible internet connection of interest. -
Major General Emmett J. Bean Finance Center-Fort Benjamin Harrison
The ERMCO Green Energy Group was successful in landing the largest solar photovoltaic project in the state of Indiana to date. This project is being completed with ARRA stimulus funds and upon completion, will be the largest roof-based photovoltaic system installation in the United States. The 3,250,000 watt system will consist of 10,656 Sun Power 305 panels covering the roof of the three-story building on Indianapolis’ west side. The project will also include a laboratory area consisting of a 30,000 watt medium efficiency crystalline module array, 30,000 watt thin-film laminate array, 30,000 watt thin-film panel array and a 30,000 watt thin-film cylinder array. The laboratory area will house a complete weather station data server, which will report the power generation and all relative atmospheric information directly to the SANDIA laboratories at New Mexico State University. In total the complete roof layout will occupy approximately 245,000 sq. ft. and should generate 5,289,215 kWh’s annually. -

With assistance from the ERMCO Green Energy Group, INCAA was able to successfully obtain a grant through the OED’s EEGBC Program towards a complete office LED lighting retrofit. The grant paid for 50% of the installation of 96~LED lay-in retrofit kits, 36~LED can lights, 6~LED exit lights, 6~exterior LED wall mount fixtures, 12~dimmable LED pendant fixtures and 36~occupancy sensors and associated lighting control components. It should be noted that INCAA is a non-profit organization and even though they are unable to capture any EPACT2005 tax deductions, ERMCO, Inc. has captured those savings on their behalf and in turn, deducted those funds from the cost of the installation. The entire project was designed and installed by the ERMCO Green Energy Group. -

With assistance from the ERMCO Green Energy Group and Eco Source, Inc., the TIE Center in Scottsburg received a grant through the Office of Energy Development’s Alternative Power Energy Program towards the installation of 22,000 watt solar system. The system consisted of 3 separate combination parallel/series circuits containing 32~Sanyo HIT210 in each configuration feeding a Sunny Boy SMA7000 watt inverter. 5 additional panels utilizing Enphase inverters mounted directly under the panels were installed on a sculptural piece at the entrance to Straylight, a high tech lighting manufacturer housed within the TIE Center. The entire installation was designed, engineered and installed in conjunction with Eco Source, Inc., a local sustainable construction company specializing in “green energy” projects. -

In late 2009, Andre Grocox, the ERMCO Green Energy Group Project Manager, was awarded an IPL Renewable Energy Program Demand-Side Grant on behalf of the IEJATC. Andre is a part-time Instructor at the IEJATC and was instrumental in landing a $10,000.00 grant towards the installation of a 3,000 watt solar array. This installation was the first solar project for ERMCO, Inc. and was instrumental in teaching several key ERMCO field personnel the characteristics of solar photovoltaic systems. It should be noted ERMCO, Inc. currently has a total of 24 Construction Operations Team members and Project Managers currently completing the IEJATC-sponsored Green Technician Certification, being taught by Andre Grocox. This training will prepare several of our key personnel for all future “green energy” projects. -

ERMCO completed the electrical work for this 180,000 square foot facility which was one of the first LEED registered buildings in Indiana.. The 4-story building houses the State of Indiana Forensic and Health Sciences Laboratories for the Indiana State Police, the Indianapolis Department of Health, and IUPUI’s Department of Toxicology. -

J. Solotken & Company, Inc. recently purchased an existing 123, 500 sq. ft. warehouse/office building on English Avenue. ERMCO completed work on this renovated space which resulted in lowering the buildings’ lighting energy use from 110 kW to 33 kW, while maintaining the same or improved foot candles and CRI. The work also involved complete building lighting controls and occupancy sensors. Also, in a joint effort with IPL to improve poor power factor (an estimated .50), ERMCO changed the service entrance to this facility by replacing an outdated over-head 1000A/480V Delta ungrounded service with a pad-mounted, underground 800 A/277~480 Wye service. This project was completed in late 2009. -

In February 2009, IndyGO was granted 9 million dollars from the Federal Transportation Administration (FTA) for building improvements at the Indianapolis Corporate facility. These funds were a result of the Federal Economic Stimulus Package. ERMCO’s work in the facility will include power feed replacement of existing rooftop units and 20 new RTU’s supplying 40 tons of AC, installing new HVAC controls, installing replacement light fixtures illuminating 300,000 sq. ft. and installing additional building automation and new lighting controls. The project will be complete by July of 2010. -
